Streszczenie The aim of this article is to analyse selected artistic practices in public space in terms of different types of interventions into cultural heritage and tradition-al notions of memory. The analysis undertaken details different types of these prac-tices in terms of their form and function, such as monuments, anti-monuments, counter-monuments and non-monuments. Nowadays, both monuments and alterna-tive (un)commemorating objects/activities can serve as a kind of barometer of social moods, tensions and social changes within norms and values. At the same time, it should be emphasised that the case study should include the socio-historical context, because although certain global trends can be found in the studied objects/activities, they always have their local specificity. Without an understanding of this context, it is not possible to fully understand specific (un)commemorating practices.
