Streszczenie Carroll Quigley (1910-1977), an American scientist, distinguished seven phases in a development of every civilization: mixture, gestation, expansion, age of conflict, universal empire, decay, invasion. In the case of Middle Kingdom, he identified there two communities: Sinic (2000 BC-400 AD) and Chinese (400-1930). The author of this article develops a theory by Quigley and tries to show when particular phases distinguished by the American scientist appeared in the history of China. Currently, Middle Kingdom seems to be in the period of universal empire. These analysis confirms usefulness of Quigley’s model for examining history of China.
