Abstract This article refers to the fight against corruption, analysed against the background of the new European Commission proposal for a Directive on combating corruption. The author points out the most significant provisions of the proposal, focusing in particular on Art. 18-2(b) which refers to compliance programmes. Pursuant to this provision, once the proposal is adopted, the implementation of a compliance programme by a legal person will constitute a circumstance mitigating sanctions. The author points out that this solution will constitute an important incitement towards a more common adoption of compliance programmes by legal persons in the EU Member States
