Abstract The changes that have taken place over the last three decades in the development of technology and information technology have meant that, almost unnoticed, we as a society have become dependent on new communication solutions. The dependence of highly developed societies on new technologies means that we as individuals are increasingly becoming victims of crimes committed using telecommunications services. Attempts at various types of fraud and scams can affect anyone who uses mobile phones or instant messaging, but the most vulnerable to such behaviour are the youngest and the oldest, and those with the least experience and knowledge as users of new technologies. This article presents the latest legal solutions introduced into Polish legislation to counteract and limit some of the negative phenomena present in cyberspace, which can cause significant damage not only to individuals, but also to the public's trust in state institutions and banks, telecommunications operators or energy suppliers.
