Abstract The development of modern technologies stimulates transformations in the functioning of universities, challenging their existing structures, relationships, and paradigms of education. The Master-professor not only ceases to be the basic holder of knowledge, but also - as a digital immigrant - often has lower competences than his student - digital native. Simultaneously, the ongoing transformation of the labor market is breaking down the existing models of professional competences and the related models of education, increasing the role of continuing education, open education and self-education. The mobility of learners increases the pressure on forms of distance education. The ability to search, critically analyze and use information is of particular importance. In the context of the above, semi-descholarization takes place resulting in the development of open educational resources and self-education networks supported by digital technologies. The consequence of this is the need of changes in the paradigm of the Master-Student relationship, consisting in the transition from mentoring to tutoring with the use of modern educational technologies including Artificial Intelligence.
