Abstract Home economics and the way it functions is currently a priority sphere of everyday life of all people running households. It is undergoing dynamic changes, at the microsocial level, which has an impact on global problems, including above all the ecological crisis and the resulting need to ensure sustainable development, i.e. one that results from intergenerational solidarity and can ensure not only economic growth, but also involvement of all social groups in development processes makes it possible to avoid environmental disasters in the future. The perspective of home economics is also radically changing as a result of conditions at the micro level. A different framework is emerging: conscious, ethical and consumer, adopted by the individuals who make up the composition of diverse households. They are the ones who redefine their principles of operation in the event of a climate crisis. Therefore it can be said that the indicated challenges and conditions have caused or will cause in the near future a fundamental change in the priorities. Is being eco-friendly today a necessity, or rather an individual choice? What defines changes in the home economy, how is it done and in which direction? These issues were the topics of essays developed by students of the first year of sociology at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, as part of the subject: demography and population processes, in the summer semester 2020-21. In this article I will analyze the content of these studies, according to our author's key. The number of studies carried out is N=85. The case study is preceded by the presentation of IFHE (International Federation for Home Economics), which for over 100 years of its existence has been at the forefront of changes in the field of home economics.
