Abstract The author analyses the social-psychological problems of children with parents abroad on the example of Republic of Moldova. The phenomenon became widespread in the early 2000s. In search of a better life, the parents decided to work abroad and to leave their children with grandparents or other relatives who have raised them. Today one could see a generation raised with distant parents. The migration process has positive and negative effects. The main research hypothesis is that the lack of a social model within the family causes difficulties in the child's socialization and leads to harmful or even deviant behavior. The author analyses the literature published on this topic. The method of statistical data analysis and the comparative method are also used. As empirical material, results obtained by the focus group method, surveys conducted with pupils whose parents have gone (or stayed for some time) abroad are used.
