Abstract The article deals with the problem of man as the subject of communication in relation to institutions, especially those related to upbringing and education. Moreover, the matter of the subject and their identity in reference to institutions and roles has been also analyzed. These issues have been considered in the educational and ethical context, taking into account the postmodern need to stimulate the ethical awareness of participants in upbringing and educational relations. There has been also made a reference to various ethical concepts and the course of action aimed at forming the subject's axiological awareness in the era of social, cultural and hence institutional transformations has been described. Furthermore, theories and ideas by, among others, Jürgen Habermas, Friedrich W. Kron and Henry A. Giroux have been quoted.
