Abstract Road safety determinants can be divided into personal and non-personal factors. In the case of the former, the psychophysical state of road users and social determinants of dangerous behaviour are taken into account. This article is a voice in the discussion on the improvement of road traffic safety. The authors assume that actions aimed at eliminating threats in road traffic should focus, among others, on disallowing those drivers from driving who are suspected that their current psychosocial and somatic condition does not ensure safe driving and may pose a threat to other road traffic participants.
