Abstract The aim of this paper is a critical reflection on the concept of the subject called Polish language which is contained in the core curriculum of general education at the third and fourth level of education ( middle school / high school ). It was made from the perspective of teaching practice and theoretical reflection on media studies. Transformation of reality due to the dissemination of new technologies, includes such phenomena as : changes in the forms of participation in culture , other concepts of identity, a new kind of cultural consciousness. It is described by researchers such as Lev Manovich as the formation of a new model of perceiving the world - the database. This model determines the need to adapt the educational requirements for a different type of culture than linear-textual one , characteristic of the age of print - to the culture of hypertext, which has its source in the digital era. Cultural change entails above all a deep reflection on issues such as: educational goals ,student competence, methods of defining what we call a cultural canon. And most importantly, as stipulated by Zygmunt Bauman - it obliges those responsible for education to seek ways of educating that preserve human subjectivity in the face of technological expansion.
