Abstract In this article I make a comparative analysis and criticism of the concept of catastrophism in the context of technical development formulated by Oswald Spengler and Georg Picht. Their concepts were created as part of the criticism of the technical world, forecasting negative consequences of the use of science and artifacts. In my work I show moments of catastrophic thinking of both these authors and I make a critical reflection on their theses, trying to point out that their formulated effects do not reflect contemporary reality.
