Abstract The aim of this article is to analyze the factors influencing the subjective social mobility in Poland on the basis of the outcome of estimation of logit models for the years 1992.1999 and 2008. The following paper uses data obtained from a survey: the "Polish General Social Survey" (PGSS) carried out by the Institute for Social Studies (ISS) at the University of Warsaw; the survey was conducted on a representative sample of adult members of households (N = 886 for the year 1992 , N = 1,183 for 1999 , N = 680 for 2008 ). The results were compared with the results obtained in the articles of Kelley and Kelley (2009) and Oksamtyny (2010). The actual social mobility has proved to be an important factor for subjective social mobility, but also have been affected by such factors as education of the respondent and his parents, household income or income and subjective mobility as well as (although not in all the years under consideration): gender, marital status of the respondent, his place of residence, being the owner of a business or farm, fulfilling his managerial function, age. Understanding subjective mobility can help to better understand the attitudes and social behavior, which can affect more how we perceive our professional mobility, than what it actually is.
