Abstract The paper examines globalized academic culture from the standpoint of Polish universities standing and perspectives. Science and quality higher education are produced in international networks. Globalization enhances the influence of American culture perceived as a mix of humboldtian university tradition, anglosaxon liberal arts college and individualistic American entrepreneurship. Positioning of academic institutions in international networks depends upon compatibility with American culture. Polish universities exhibit relatively low level of compatibility. Reasons of this phenomenon are examined and perspectives for the future presented.
