Abstract The author of this article joins a contemporary discussion on the problem of identity. The last one – in the context of Baumanian “liquidity” or Wolfgang Welsch’s idea of “autocreativity” – seems to be a performative one and is created by the postmodern subject that is called here, because of its aestheticized universum, homo aestehticus. The background for the article is John Austin’s idea of performatives as well as some artistic propositions of performance art (Joseph Beuys, Marina Abramović, or Frank Castorf) and thus a kind of aesthetics of performativity (proposed by Erika Fischer-Lichte). One could assume that the performative identity of postmodern homo aestheticus continues the above mentioned plots. Unfortunately, the postmodern, antimetaphysical context causes the performative identity to be reduced merely to its aesthetical and thus commercial aspect.
