Abstract It goes without saying that various transformations of the world and people are an essence of human condition, especially in the long run. However transformations are very diversified in time and space. They lead rather to growing diversity than to universal patterns of development. Various human actors try to control transformations by making decisions, building strategies, conducting policies. Efforts to direct transformations to a sustainable trajectory are more urgent nowadays in the face of risks, dangers and increasing ecological costs of development. So to understand a changing nature of the present “liquid modernity” it is necessary to recognize and analyze ongoing transformations. Such paradigmatic approach can be also helpful for practical decision-making and acting. Transition to a “better world” needs new thinking to cope with all emerging challenges to ameliorate human condition.
