Abstract Man has always been a migratory animal, as Carl Sagan calls it in the 'Blue Dot', concluding his reflections on the nomadic and exploratory nature of man. Travelling to other planets, establishing habitats or colonies there is an important part of our contemporary pop culture and the subject of a lot of academic work and popular science publications. However, serious thought must be given to what the state of the space law and national regulations on space settlement de lege lata is at present, and consideration must be given de lege ferenda where the corpus iuris spatialis leaves room for amending or creating new regulations on space settlement. Issues discussed will be consent, jurisdiction over the settlement and issues of environmental adaptation around the settlement.
