Abstract Over the course of 2017-2018 International Olympic Committee debated if esports should be part of Olympic Games. Eventually it even debuted during Asian Games 2018 as a demonstration sport. Because of that it can not be seen as surprise that esports, as electronic sports, is often compared to traditional sports. It is, after all, based on similar principles and mechanisms. But can we really equate sports and esports? There are many different aspects that make activity sporty but for the start of bigger discussion author focuses only on definitional attributes that characterizes sports.Prime goal of this work is to earnestly and objectively look at esports and answer the question if it can be called a sport in compliance with broadly accepted definitions. Author also hopes to fire up debate and academic mull about esports, its further development and its place in world of traditional sports.
