Abstract More than other professions, the teacher’s job requires unceasing activity, receptivity to changes in teaching methodology and constant search for new methods or forms of work adequate to learners’ needs. Students of pedagogy have to prepare for the teaching environment as it will be within a few years, not for the current situation. Rapid social changes and the appearance of new phenomena require school to become a place where a young person is taught to make use of the things other cultures have to offer an of faster development of technology and science, yet – with proper appreciation of the own tradition. Therefore, many new duties, which go far beyond their current knowledge and skills, are imposed on teachers. The presented study has been divided into three parts indicated in the title. In each part, analyses are presented of the research conducted among students and concerning the issues of their university studies and the teacher’s profession, which they have chosen.
