Abstract Humour and laughter with it have been for many years the subject of research by many scholars who for centuries have been thinking about their essence and their function in social life because of the important and diverse role that it plays in the everyday life of individuals and groups. One of the cardinal conclusions from these observations is that the strength of wit is large enough to manipulate people, hence one of the areas of its utilitarian use is politics. And the use of humour in the fight for power and / or with power is as old as politics itself. The concept of political gelotology understood as a new subdiscipline of social sciences derives from the attempt to describe the phenomenon and show its multidimensionality and multifaceted – dealing with the influence of humour and laughter on political behaviour, voters and politicians, and interactions based on the „community of laughter”.
