Abstract The aim of this research was to present the phenomenon of procrastination and academic dishonesty as two contemporary forms of transformation of social life in the academic environment. Academic procrastination has become a serious problem of modern education, especially in the group of younger students and there might be multiple explanations of its causes. In the present study we make reference to one of the dispositional factors of the individual which is coherence. The study included 96 students of pedagogy at the University of Rzeszów. The results confirmed that the high tendency for procrastination is accompanied by the sense of internal control, while the low procrastination is determined by the sense of external control. However, no significant differences were detected in the scope of tendencies for procrastination among students who show a strong tendency to lie and manifest academic dishonesty. It is an alarming finding because it indicates that regardless of the tendency to procrastinate (high vs. low), students do not tell the truth and resort to various forms of academic dishonesty in achieving the intended goal.
