Abstract Thinking about the education of the young generation usually results from social needs. However, rapid political and social changes, such as the collapse of the system of the PRL in 1989, are not immediately translated into changes in education, some of them are too slow, others not necessarily in line with expectations. The article presents some phenomena appearing in the course of these processes, focusing on problems related to early childhood education and preparing teachers for this stage of education. The proposed changes in early education were implemented during the reform of education in 1999, and corrected in 2017. However, there is still an unstable situation in the regulations concerning standards of teacher education, which causes still not entirely clear requirements in academic education.\r\n
