Abstract This article presents the author's thoughts, aimed at identifying new content that can and should be included in education programs, especially but not only in technical universities, in connection with the challenges of modern times. The presented consideration also concerns the means and methods of transferring the indicated content to the identified recipients. The author presents in particular his experiences related to presenting to students of various types and grades of studies of technical problems at the university, which is a peculiar environment of the "classic" teaching content offered for "future engineers". In reference to the challenges of the present day, treated as components of the ongoing scientific and technical revolution ("e-revolution"), the author indicates in the article the necessity to include phenomena such as "Industry 4.0" or "Smart City" in educational processes, in an adequate form and scope. Discussing in more detail the importance of specific issues, such as identification and assessment of needs (in terms of "Engineering of Needs ") or assessment of the effects of universal availability of new technologies and products (in terms of "Technology Assessment"), the author of the article proposes some means and ways to include such issues in education, not just education of engineers.
