Abstract Contemporary knowledge concerning the human behavior mechanisms allows to assume that consciousness remains a key and universal factor of the process of the human search of his or her own individuality. To understand a nature of consciousness it is important to discover new spaces of thought that are connected with the interdisciplinary concepts presented in this paper. In the present world the possibilities of human individual development are confronted with the multiplicity of other social life mechanisms that has remained largely under the control of “elites” building their own capitalon the lack of consciousness among wider human population. Omnipresent consumption as well as promotion of materialism as a value undoubtedly represent the mechanisms of power that allow for the domination over the human desires and emotions and prevent development in both individual and social dimensions. In this paper the role of education for sustainable development will be emphasized. Such type of education includes teaching young people the ability to think, to identify the mechanisms of social life, to effectively spot individual possibilities and potentials. This abilities can be a way to prevent the effect of the mechanisms of social influence and social manipulation.
