Abstract The aim of this article is to indicate and discuss some antinomies and limits of contemporary expert systems taking psychiatry and therapy as the examples. New experts which recently appeared next to traditional authorities of soul and life as much as the complexity and ambiguity caused by their coexistence determined the fate of the individuals. What was to facilitate the new way of organizing experience and constructing the self - identity in the posttraditional societies, turned out to be as unstable and uncertain as the issue it had to approach. It couldn't be otherwise, as expert systems are the part of modernity which problems they are trying to solve.
