Abstract The space of life and education of a modern child is characterized by elements of media and visual culture. From their early age, children develop in the culture of image. The ability to the correct reception of pictorial content by a child should be enriched with critical reflection, and this requires proper formation and preparation. Taking into consideration the developmental characteristics of children at preschool and early school age in the process of activating and developing visual and media competences, we should act on all components of these competences, ie. cognitive, social and technological elements. Therefore, the following study attempts to give reasons for the need to take into account, in the course of developing visual and media competences, various forms of a child’s contacts and work with visual transfers.
