Abstract This article attempts to answer three questions about the long play ,,Construction Time Again” Depeche Mode. First, why the album was received as a political manifesto? Secondly, what motives guided the musicians? And thirdly, what was the transformation of the image of the group? To answer these questions the paper examines the political motives appearing in different forms on the ,,Construction Time Again”. Starting from a graphical analysis of the LP cover, it has been characterized the text content of selected songs, where we can find some political references. It has been describes also the background of to the album, in particular the Thatcher’s government and the context of the Cold War. The paper concludes with an analysis of the ,,Construction Time Again” on the background of ,,new romantic” trend.
