Abstract The paper is an original attempt to theoretically organize the most important artistic and activistic strategies used nowadays as a form of resistance against intelligent systems of individual and social control. Selected strategies used by cyberartists and hacktivists are subversive modes of new technologies usage. They are often groundbreaking technical tools which are subsequently overtaken by big networks of users or they affect broadening of the new media topics in public discourse, also with the help of mass media and social media. The authoress notices several basic communication strategies (intercepting data from environment, intercepting urban space and its media images, hacking the technical equipment, hacking the channels of communication, hacking wearable technologies, hacking the bodies and surveillance, playful reworking of ubicomp, data visualisation) and pays particular attention to the first four of the above. They can be named as the outer strategies — as they concentrate on intercepting data from various levels of human ecosystem, not touching directly the human body (as the inner strategies do).
