Abstract The article focuses on issues related to the experience of a pandemic as a difficult situation, including the analysis of how time is perceived and managed by young people studying before and during the pandemic, and the level of basic hope of the respondents (according to E. Erikson's assumptions). The obtained results of own research allow to assume that the diagnosis of the level of basic hope may be both a predictor of the individual's potential to cope with a difficult situation and his readiness to change the current functioning. Recognition of the level of basic hope will enable proper targeting and stimulation of influences supporting this potential.
