Abstract The article entitled „Music in Opposition. Binary Thinking in Philosophy of Music” focuses on the schemata of thinking in the field of philosophy of music as well as musicology. This thinking, according to Author, oscillates around binarisms and dichotomies. Things such as music/noise, music/language, or European/American music, not only organize the musicological issues, but seem to be a source of the issues at hand. Any of the oppositions generates a discussion about the elements of which are either opposing, or relating in terms of source-origin or reason-goal aspects. The author of the article refers some examples of different musicological problems and shows the way of influence of abovementioned binarisms on presenting the issues as well as exposing proposed solutions.
